Born in what is now Lavun, Niger State,to a Ghanaian father and a Nupe mother, she grew up in
a society where women’s voices were largely suppressed. Early loss of her parents and an arranged marriage at
age 13 shaped her deep empathy for the marginalized — especially women and children.
She was a legendary Nigerian women’s rights activist, politician, and philanthropist whose courageous life changed the course of female political participation in Northern Nigeria
Unsung Act
A fearless advocate for women and the poor in Nothern Nigeria, imprisoned about 16 times for opposing injustice.She defied a deeply patriarchal system, mobilised for grassroots resistance through NEPU, and fought for women's political rights long after independence.
